Underwater Airport and Kristen Miller

Benefit Show for the Star Lighthouse

Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 7:00 pm.

The Actors Studio Theater

The Tannery

Mill #1, Suite 5

12 Federal Street

Newburyport, MA 01950

The Star Lighthouse is an Interfaith Chapel and Spiritual Center, where people seeking positive universal oneness can come together to share in prayer, worship, and healing services, lectures, meetings, musical performances, sacred circle dances, yoga classes, meditation gatherings, visual art explorations and other divinely inspired activities.

The Star Lighthouse will officially open to the public in the autumn of 2017, after completion of a few more renovation projects within the historic building. The location—at 428 Main Street, Amesbury—is convenient to the I-95 and I-495 highways, and faces the Merrimack River in the historic Point Shore neighborhood of Amesbury, Massachusetts.

Music will play an important role at the Star Lighthouse, as it is so effective at inspiring and uplifting our spirits. This first fundraiser for the Star Lighthouse will feature music that encourages listeners to explore their emotions, imaginations, and elevated consciousness.

Cellist Kristen Miller is a one-woman ensemble. She connects her antique cello to a live digital recorder to stack layers of lush cello, spoken word and singing. Kristen has created a style that Billboard writer Bobby Borg calls "romantically, hauntingly, charmingly, brilliant.” Kristen is the recipient of several awards and scholarships, including Jam Magazine’s Female Artist of the Year, and the Zara Nelsova Cellist Award for excellence in performance. In addition to being a solo performer, session cellist and composer, Kristen also enjoys working as a shamanic sound healer using Himalayan singing bowls for clearing blockages, accessing powerful healing, and grounding deep change within those in need of healing. She offers group events and private healing sessions. Kristen also enjoys sharing the gift of music with others through teaching private cello lessons and improvisation.

Underwater Airport is an improvising and recording multimedia ensemble combining music and projected visuals for the purpose of creating spontaneous portals into alternate space-time dimensions. Drawing inspiration from such diverse sources as shamanic trance music, 1960's free jazz and psychedelia, ambient electronica, and world beat, the band's members have practiced individual and collective improvisation in diverse settings far longer than they can remember. All of their music is improvised in the present moment using Electric Oud, Guitars, Synths, Bass, Chapman Stick, Drums, Hand Percussion, Saxophones, Electronic Wind Instrument, Laptops, iOS Devices, Digital Loops, and Video.

Kristen will perform first, followed by Underwater Airport, and finally all will play together to close the evening.

Suggested Donation is $20 or "Pay What You Can.” Donations will go toward renovations and start-up costs for the Star Lighthouse.

All musicians have generously offered to donate their usual fees toward the fundraiser.

UA at Gulu Gulu in Salem on Saturday, April 23, 2016

Dear Musical Adventurer,

We're writing with some Underwater Airport news.

This coming Saturday, April 23, 2016, we'll be back at Gulu Gulu in Salem, MA from 9 - 12.  As always, the food and beverages are excellent, and the folks are very friendly.  And it's FREE!

See http://www.gulugulucafe.com/events/event/underwater-airport/ for details.

We also want to let you know that we recently discovered that all of our recordings to date are available for listening on YouTube, at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUIlG7zOpyq1-7QRml2SBfg/videos.

Being on YouTube means that folks who don't use Spotify, Apple Music, or any of the other paid streaming services can still check out the music whenever they want to, which is pretty cool.

We hope you enjoy the music, and we'd love to see or hear from you.

By the way, if you happen to know of anyone who needs music for a soundtrack or other creative project, we'd love to hear about it.

All the best,

Your friends in Underwater Airport

New Underwater Airport Record and April 23 Show

Greetings, Musical Adventurer!

It's been a while since we last posted to our News page, so we wanted to let you know about our most recent recording, and an upcoming show.

We evidently aren't the most "marketing" oriented band around, since we actually released our "new" record last November.  But the holidays were right around the corner, and everyone got busy and, well, you probably know how it can be.  So we're just getting around to letting folks know about it now.

The new record is called "Outside the Linear Time Paradigm."  With 20 tracks, it provides almost 2 hours of sonic exploration.

You can find it under "Underwater Airport" on all the popular streaming and download services, as well as at CD Baby, where high-quality downloads of all of our records are available for the magical price of $3.33.

By the way, we haven't made physical CDs since our first release, what with the music distribution model being all disrupted.  But if anyone really, REALLY wants hand-burned CD-Rs, let us know and we'll see what we can do.

By the way, this is our eighth release, so if you enjoy what we're doing, we invite you to explore the prior ones as well.

You can also find all of our music on the music store on www.underwaterairport.com.  Click the link that says Listen + Buy to find all our releases, as well as other projects we are part of.

But wait, that's not all!  We are putting the finishing touches on yet another -- ambient / no drums -- record from the same session that this new one was recorded at.  We'll let you know when that one launches.

Now, about the upcoming show.  We'll be back at the great Gulu Gulu Café in historic Salem, MA on Saturday, April 23 from 9 until midnight.  As always, the food and beverages are excellent, and the folks are very friendly.  And it's FREE!
